What I do not do
While I try my best to help as much as I possibly can, there are certain things I don’t do. In this document, I detail what I don’t do once I you have accepted my quote. This is to minimize misunderstanding and avoid any legal actions between myself and my clients.
- I am just a contract worker.
This implies that I only work on the scripts that have anything to do with the project I have been hired for. This means, I will work only in the directories and sub directories that have anything to do with the project at hand. In that regard, if I am working on your blog hosted at http://www.youriste.com/blog/ I will work only in the /blog/ directory and its sub directories. If there are other resources outside the blog directory, I will let you know by email and request due authorization. - I work only on the task hired for.
It is common practice “to take advantage of freelancers”. That is, some providers will allow themselves to require some extra work from freelancers for various reasons. I have a zero-tolerance policy to such behavior. If I am hiredto create a blog for instance, please do not require me to install two more blogs. This allows me to be reasonably accurate with the time frame I give to other customers, and it gives fairness more meaning to the quote I deliver before starting working on the project. Whether I help you with other project at no extra charge will depend entirely on me. I usually do that, but I do not appreciate when a provider makes it sound like it is mandatory! - Back ups are you responsibility
This is only true is some instances. Unless the task to perform is to back up your data, I usually back up those files or database tables or database entries I feel are important to safeguard. For instance, if I have to move a blog from directory X to directory Z and update the database in one way or another, I will simply back up the data in directory X and some part of the database to be moved.
Everything else is completely up to the provider. - I do not store your data.
While working on a remote project necessitates downloading some files to a local compute (ruling out the remote desktop option out), I erase your data from the local computer as soon as the task is complete. This is because of two reasons:- I have a simple policy about organization… “the fewer things to organize I have, the better”
- I may have to work again on your project after someone else does. By making sure I work on the most recent version of files I am sure not to risk such a possibility.
NB: I may choose to keep some files in case for future reference (dispute, misunderstanding,…), but this is totally to my discretion. So, when you award me your project, bear in mind I can download any file to keep in the directory for the project, unless otherwise agreed upon.
